What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are carefully shaped and bonded to the front of your teeth. These thin shells can make a remarkable difference in the appearance of your teeth, covering stubborn discolorations, concealing chips, filling in gaps, elongating short or worn teeth, and straightening crooked teeth.
Placing veneers typically takes two weeks and is minimally invasive. At your first appointment, we’ll prep your teeth for the veneers (a process that involves removing a small amount of your enamel to allow the veneers to sit naturally) and then taking impressions to send to the dental lab that will be creating your veneers. We’ll also take photographs and discuss shading to provide the lab with all the information they need to craft beautiful veneers that look completely natural.
Are Veneers Permanent?
Once the prepping process has been complete, you will need to permanently wear veneers. While the veneers themselves are not permanent and will eventually need to be replaced, with appropriate care, you can expect your veneers to last up to a decade.
Caring for Veneers
For the most part, caring for veneers is exactly the same as caring for natural teeth. Veneers can build up plaque and tartar, and regular brushing and flossing is necessary to keep them looking their best. While veneers are designed to be stain resistant, they can develop stains over time, especially if you have habits like drinking coffee or red wine and smoking.
You should continue to visit Agave Dental for regular checkups so that we can not only make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy and free from decay and disease but also so that we can check on the condition of your veneers and keep them looking great.
